The cart creaked along the waxed floor, the beeping of the cash register echoing somewhere near the entrance, and Josh rolled his cart into another aisle. He scanned the shelves with his eyes, picked up a can, tossed it into the cart, and kept rolling along. His phone chirped, distracting him, and Josh fished it out of his pocket and opened it as he continued to move along.

“Keith, Keith Zane,” the nurse called as I sat waiting in the doctor’s office. “The doctor will see you now,” she said pointing to room number two. The one with the sign “Dr. V. Edwards” on its door. I got up and started walking over to it.  I opened the door, walked in, and closed the door behind me. Inside the office, sitting at her desk was a very attractive blonde who I assumed was doctor V. Edwards.

The air was stuffy, hints of smoke, sweat, and beer all mingled together in an almost intoxicating perfume. It was warm inside, a blanketing warmth that made you forget the chill winter night outside once you came in.
